MTV Newsroom – Paris Jackson Opens Up To Oprah About Being Bullied

By Zachary Swickey

Michael Jackson’s beautiful 14-year-old daughter, Paris, has admitted that she is bullied in school.

In a new interview with Oprah Winfrey on her OWN program “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” Paris explained, “People try, but it doesn’t always work. At school and some people try to cyber bully me. They try to get to me with words, but that doesn’t really work.”

Paris admits being the King of Pop’s daughter has made it tough for her to make friends and she has to be weary of their possible ulterior motives. “If I feel someone is being fake to me, I will just push away,” she told Oprah.

Paris even talked about the surgical masks her father would make her and her brothers wear whenever appearing in public. She admitted being as perplexed as we were at the time, but age has given her some perspective on what her father was trying to do and it makes sense now.

“I understand it now – why my dad would want our faces to be covered. When we went out without him we wouldn’t be recognized,” she explained.

Paris said such precautions are the reason she had a “normal childhood, including trips to the children’s arcade and restaurant Chuck E. Cheese’s.”

“He told us that when he was younger he didn’t really have a childhood,” she revealed of her famous father. “He would always be stuck in the studio singing while the kids were out playing. He wanted us to have that.”

E! Online – Paris Jackson Talks Mask-Wearing and Getting Grounded by Michael Jackson in Oprah Sit-Down

If you thought you were confused the first time you saw Michael Jackson’s young children wearing masks in public, then spare a thought for the kids themselves.

In a new interview with Oprah Winfrey, Paris Jackson opened up about how it felt to be subjected to the face-covering paraphernalia, what sort of parental punishment Michael used to mete out, and why he was, in the end, just your typical, “normal” dad.

“I was really confused, like I didn’t get why I was wearing a mask,” the 13-year-old told Oprah. “But I understand it now, why our dad would want our face to be covered, so we went out without him, we wouldn’t be recognized and we could have a normal childhood.”

The idea of maintaining some semblance of normalcy was an important one in the Jackson household, and a notion that frequently came up during the interview.

“He did,” she said, when asked if Michael wanted his kids to have a so-called normal life.

“He had his doubts, because he told us that when he was younger he didn’t really have a childhood. He’d always be stuck in the studio singing while other kids were out playing. And he wanted us to have that…Chuck E. Cheese and Toys ‘R’ Us were our favorite places to go.”

Cut to today, and the Jackson trio of Paris, Prince Michael and of course Blanket are still acutely aware of their loss.

“Now I see other kids and their parents and I compare them to my dad. Our dad was a really normal father when he was with us. We would get grounded if we did something bad. He would ground us. He wouldn’t call it grounding; he’d just say, ‘You’re on punishment.’ Sometimes we’d be on punishment a lot. Mostly me and Blanket, because me and Blanket would always fight.”

However, that sibling rivalry seems to have tapered off, as now Paris and Blanket are closer than ever.

“Prince has started to drift off; he’s a teenager, he’s a teenage boy, he’s gonna do that. But me and Blanket have found a lot of things in common, more things than I thought we did, so me and him have gotten a lot closer.”

VH1 – Paris Jackson Thinks People Don’t Like Her And Other Really Teenage Girl Things She Told Oprah

by Sabrina Rojas Weiss

After seeing Paris Jackson and her brothers on a Jet Blue flight last Christmas, I’ve felt like I was in on a secret: Michael Jackson’s children have an enormous capacity to act like regular kids. I mean, she’s a “regular kid” with extraordinarily mesmerizing blue eyes, a tragic past and a lead role in an upcoming movie, but you get my drift. If you watched her interview on last night’s Oprah’s Next Chapter you might agree with me. Or disagree, because the 14-year-old also showed us that she’s incredibly strong and self-aware for her age. Anyway, here are some great, super-normal things we learned about Paris:

“People have tried [to bully me] but it doesn’t always work,” Paris said about the “drama” she faces in school. “A lot of people don’t like me. … Kids talk so bad behind my back.” We want to give these jealous girls quite a talkin’ to right now. She’s not allowed to date yet, but she can “date in groups,” like at the mall. (I freaking love that Oprah asked her this.)

She loves acting because “you can take on a new character.” What teenage girl doesn’t want to try on a new persona for size once in a while?

Though their dad used to put them “on punishment” for fighting, Paris and Blanket are closer now. Prince has “started to drift off,” but his sister wisely chalks this up to him being a teenage boy.

Whenever she hears a song of her dad’s playing somewhere, “I just start to dance,” rather than cry. Unless it’s “You Are Not Alone.” And OK, that made us cry on the spot.

Though missing her dad “never gets easier” and memories of him come to her all the time, she told Oprah, “I think I’m doing all right.”
